Website design for author and activist Miriam Ching Yoon Louie

Process Notes
Back in 2012 in San Francisco, I met Miriam and her daughter Nguyen Louie at a Kearny Street Workshop event curated by Debbie Yee. Through keeping in touch with Nguyen re: visual art and comics, Miriam reached out to me in March 2015 for design work to promote her new book.
Through setting up her first-ever dot com, I created a logo for her site, which I used to develop her business card and letterhead. A Korean Chinese American, Miriam wanted to incorporate both orchids and tigers into the design to evoke her heritage as transmitted through her name and birth year. The texture and color evoked by orchids, especially tiger orchids, became the base for the visual concept of the site. The color palette shows variations of magenta and gold; the fonts are Crushed and Arimo.
