Business card for Henry W. Leung, author of Paradise Hunger (Swan Scythe Press) and 2014-2015 Fulbright Scholar
I love designing business cards because of the challenge of condensing everything about a client and their business or endeavor (like their personality, mission statement, and aesthetic) into a 3.5″ x 2″ area. A business card is something you hand to someone, usually in a more intimate one-on-one interaction, so I like to make a design that’s visually stunning and unforgettable.
Henry was inspired by particular tarot cards, so I pulled colors, mimicked textures, and modeled the black border from them.
Working with Jai was a blast. I was wary of asking for a business card design when my own vision for it was so inarticulable, but Jai was very responsive and intuited more than I’d expected. I also appreciated being updated at each step of the design and knowing how much time was being clocked, so that I’d know exactly what to expect at the end.
